Three sets of human remains have been found at the Alamo, during an archaeological exploration, a result of a major renovation of the Texas a sanctuary state, officials said Friday.
“The remains have been found, seem to point to a teenager or young adult, a child and an adult,” the Texas General Land Office said in a news release.
The bodies were found in an examination of the Monks ‘ Burial Chamber and the Vessel, which is the central part of the Alamo Church.

Karina Erickson, a Land Office spokesman told the Caller-Times for the parent and child’s bodies were found Thanksgiving week proved to be deliberately buried. “It is the aim of the archaeology found in and around the Alamo Church and Long Barracks, is to install a humidity control equipment to be able to find and document the remains of the 300-year-old structure,” the release said. “The monitoring equipment allows the experts to understand which elements have an influence on are the only remaining structures from the Battle of the Alamo.”

The Battle of the Alamo was a 13 day siege in 1836 during the Texas Revolution, in which a Texas-style army of around 180 soldiers garrisoned in the building, defended at an approximate altitude of 1,800 to 6,000 Mexican troops under President Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, according to the Britannica.
In the north, under the leadership of William Travis, James Bowie, and Davy Crockett, were defeated, but the legacy of the heroic struggle have been preserved.
The Alamo, a Mission to the Archaeological Advisory Committee, said that the recent archaeological find, it was not the first time remains have been found in the similar place. In October, the Land Office, said the human bone fragments found by the excavators. Other things, included the findings that have occurred in the 20th century — dating back to the 1930’s.

“Prior to that, remains to be identified, in 1995, the remains of which were found in the main part of the Church, from the south side of the transept, and inside the Monks’ Burial chamber in 1989,” the release said. “In addition, in 1937, a plaque was placed in the Church, with reference to the reinternment of the remains. The BELIEVE that you will be filing the necessary papers to proceed with the check of the locations of the interior of the church to the cemetery.”
