Housing and urban development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson on Tuesday said Tucker Carlson, the reasons for a proposed rule amendment to strip illegal immigrants of public housing-would help.

Section 214 of the housing and Community Development Act “States that the Secretary of HUD is prohibited from providing housing support to people illegally in the country. And what people don’t understand sometimes, is that we said millions of legal Americans in the queue for these very scarce resources,” he said.

Carson faced harsh criticism from Democrats on Tuesday, as he answered to hear questions about the politics on Capitol Hill.

The policy, first passed into law in 1980, stating that the majority are not prohibited citizens from applying for and obtaining Federal financial assistance for the apartment.

Carson, talk to Carlson, was quick to defend and explain the proposal. “So, you know, to suggest that I break the law, what is the real implication is? We can only select and choose the laws we want to enforce and embrace? Of course, we feel sympathy for the people. Of course we don’t want anybody out on the street. But the real thing that hurt people, is our failure, this immigration system. The rules for the drawing, to the people here and keep them here, and so unfair to American citizens to pay taxes and to work here.”

He said the American immigration system is broken: “It can’t work,” Carson insisted, “if we draw the wrong incentives of the people here.”

The current system allows for families of mixed immigration status, will receive a prorated amount of support for those citizens or legal residents.

Carson said the situation is similar to the that of passengers, which said that, if emergency oxygen masks, you should set the drop-down during the flight, “on first and then help your neighbors.”

“Of course,” he said, we need to take care of our people. It does not mean that we are not compassionate people. That is, we are logical people.

“We take care of our people.”
