MUNICH (Reuters) – Huawei’s [HWT.UL] the new ner in the 30-range smartphone that will run on an open-source version of Google’s Android operating system, a source familiar with the matter said, before a large launch event in Germany on Thursday.
The world’s No. 2 mobile phone maker, has been unable to obtain a license for the latest version of the Android operating system is by Google, and the Alphabet in a unit, because of an export ban imposed by the U.S. government, in mid-May.
The flagship 5G, the device will not be able to take advantage of Google Mobile Services, access to the google Play Store and download an app, such as Gmail, Youtube or Maps. Instead, Huawei will provide its own interface through which users will be able to access a variety of Google apps.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the man is 30 and would go on sale “soon” in Europe is an important battleground for the Chinese company as it attempts to regain market share lost in the wake of the U.S. export ban.
