PORTLAND, Maine – The European Union has been trying to ban Maine lobsters are not stopped, they continue holiday meals in countries such as France, Italy and Spain.
Lobsters are a Christmas tradition in several European countries, and Maine lobster suppliers will see a spike in December output to meet demand.
The European Union caused a stir earlier in the year to consider, and then back down a proposal for a prohibition on the North American lobsters.
Sweden had complained about the American lobster in the country of the waters. The European Commission has informed Sweden will not allow the lobster to be listed as invasive. It will instead of pursuing measures less likely to disrupt the flow of the trade.
