Hellboy-the actor is moving on to lack diversity
Actor Ed Skrein plays no longer in the new Hellboy film. The British actor, who played the role of the Japanese-American major Ben Daimio would think that an actor with an Asian background, the role belongs to play.
The producers of Hellboy left know behind the decision of Skrein.
The 34-year-old Skrein said that he did not know that the character in the comic an Asian background. The actor says on Twitter that he was a principled decision has been taken.
“It is clear that the voice of this character in a proper manner must take place and that the denial of responsibility leads to that ethnic minorities are suppressed and have no voice in the arts”, tweeted the actor.
A lot of support
On social media received Skrein a lot of support for his decision, also people who are not a fan of Hellboy. “Thank you for this. I’m definitely watching the next movie where you play”, responded to a twitterer.
Hollywoodproducenten are nowadays often under fire for ‘whitewashing’, casting white people for characters that have originally a different ethnic background.
“It was not our intention to be numb for the authenticity and ethnic background of the character. We will be playing the role re-cast and an actor find that the original character better represents,” said Hellboyproducenten Larry Dordon and Lloyd Levin in a statement.
