Heavy fighting in Syria on eve cease-fire

In Syria fierce clashes erupted on the eve of the armistice Monday. The Syrian army and the armed groups try their strength, before the weapons are temporarily put down.

The government forces of president Bashar al-Assad is trying in addition, in the mountainous north to gain ground. Rebels are trying in the southwest of improving their position.

Monday goes according to plan, a ceasefire in which the United States and Russia have made efforts. The cease-fire must ensure that there is humanitarian aid to the civilian population, including in the hard hit city of Aleppo.

Respect

The Syrian regime has to know the file, to respect. The moderate rebel group known as the Free Syrian Army (FSA) expressed low confidence in the arrangements.

Iran responded positively to the agreement. The country supports the government of Assad. The Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, which together with the army fighting in Syria, says on the appointments to keep.

Turkey called the agreement “welcome”. Western countries and the United Nations have responded positively to the agreement, after weeks of negotiations between the U.S. and Russia came into being.

A ceasefire in Syria is “of vital importance”, said minister Bert Koenders earlier. “This can be a breakthrough, as compliance by all parties is checked, the military cooperation between the United States and Russia and Assad are planes really at the floor. It is also important that humanitarian access is now everywhere to be guaranteed.”

Jihadists

Jihadist groups, such as terreurbeweging Islamic State (IS) and Jahbet al-Sham (formerly Nusra Front, the al-Qaedatak in Syria), probably nothing to the agreement.
