Raw video: Shark goes deep sea fishing in Florida
Hammerhead shark chases and catches the tarpon.
A woman from Florida for a cruise on Sunday captured shocking images of what appears to be a hammerhead shark hunting the next meal — a huge tarpon.
Whitney Phillips Watson was on a boat in the Bean Point, just a few hundred metres off the coast of Anna Maria Island, when she saw a hammerhead shark in the water.
As the boat came nearer, but she saw that the shark was in fact a pursuit of a tarpon, a fish that can reach nearly 8 feet in length and weigh more than 250 pounds, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
“That’s a great hammerhead,” Watson can be heard saying in the video, asks the driver of the boat to “not get too close.”
At multiples points, while Watson movies of the yacht, the hammerhead shark scuba diving under the boat.
“I’m shaking! I’m shaking,” Watson repeated.
Watson told WTXL it turned out to be the hammerhead shark, which they estimated to be about 10 to 12 metres in length, was “playing” with the tarpon for the food.
“Ultimately, at the poor tarpon after playing a few minutes. It was proud and wanted to show us what it was,” Watson later said on Facebook. “It reminds me of my cat playing with lizards before he chomps them in half.”
