‘Half the causes of death in Belgium is error’
Approximately 30 to 50 percent of the causes of death in Belgium are determined to be incorrect. Reported that the Belgian newspapers, The Standard and The Latest News Saturday on the authority of the pathologist-anatomen.
According to the Belgian law it is up to each doctor a cause of death determination. “It is not enough simply that the dead bodies to investigate which external signs of violence exhibit,” said forensic pathologist Wim Van de Voorde against The Standard.
The pathologist-anatomen advocate autopsy to be performed at all fatalities, suicides, and unexpected deaths. That would only even by their own profession be allowed to happen.
The experts estimate that a large number of murders due to improper autopsy remain undiscovered. “We are the only country in Europe where victims of murder and manslaughter are still in wrong hands. As a result, our country is estimated at 150 to 200 undiscovered murders.”
