Gun-toting woman shot by POLICE officers after alleged crime spree, police say

A woman with a gun shot in the arm after a weekend of bizarre behavior and crimes.

A gun-toting woman was shot by New York City officers Sunday after a weekend crime spree that began when she allegedly choked a parent at a school play, police said.

Lori Gjenashaj, 41, was shot in the shoulder around 12:45 a.m. after police received a 911 call about a woman to break into a Staten Island home, NYPD Chief of Patrol’s Rodney Harrison said.

Police conducted the traffic stop of a black SUV that Gjenashaj was driving and when officers approached the vehicle, they brandished a firearm, authorities said. Agents fired five rounds at her, striking her once in the shoulder.

“They were hard at it,” said Roland Molina, 63, who have heard at least four shots. “I heard a woman scream, “I’m f–king shot!”

Gjenashaj the alleged crime spree reportedly started the night before she was shot in the shoulder.

Gjenashaj was arrested around 11:20 p.m. Saturday after she’d choked the other parent at a school play in the Academy of St. Dorothy, the Staten Island Advance reported, citing police sources. She reportedly called the womon the children in a sexually explicit name.

Gjenashaj was charged with misdemeanor assault and issued a desk appearance ticket and was released, according to the Staten Island Advance.

The following day, police said Gjenashaj went to her mother-in-law’s home on Staten Island and threatened her.

They drove to a former friend’s house and tried to break in by smashing the door with a brick, the New York Daily News reported. Also they sent her gun on her friend, 13-year-old boy, who was in the house, and then fled the area.

At one point during her rampage, Gjenashaj let a male relative of her car before the police caught up with her, according to the Daily News. The man was not charged.

Gjenashaj had to go to the hospital after she was shot in the shoulder. She is reportedly in stable condition Monday. Her weapon was recovered at the scene.

No charges have been filed in the case yet.
