Gowdy: The rebuttal: you will change nothing GOP memo
The Congressman sits down for an exclusive interview with ‘The story.’
EXCLUSIVE – Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S. C., strongly implied on Fox News on Tuesday night that the Clinton family confidant Sidney Blumenthal was an important link in a chain of information that contributed to the controversial Trump-Russia-dossier.
Gowdy told Fox News’ “The history” , “if you are listening to, who … one of the sources of the information, you think, ‘Oh, my God, I’ve heard that name somewhere before.'”
If the host Martha MacCallum asked if he meant Blumenthal, Gowdy replied, “That would be really hot. They are warm, Yes.”
Gowdy, who is among a number of Republican legislators not running for re-election in November, played a key role in the development of a recently released memo alleged monitoring violations of human rights by the Federal government. The memo took particular issue with the FBI’s use of information from the dossier, reveal put together by the former British spy, Christopher Steele, and he claimed to be, the close connections between President Trump and Russian officials.
Sidney Blumenthal testified before the House select committee investigation of the Benghazi attack in 2015.
Last month, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S. C., a new reference in regard to Steele, the FBI. The recommendation, parts of which were released Monday, included a reference to “a foreign source [who] gave information to an unnamed employee of Hillary and Bill Clinton, who then gave the information to an unnamed in the Obama State Department, then the information given to Steele.”
In another section, the reference given for this is that Steele received information from “a foreign sub-source, in contact with (redacted), contact (redacted), a friend of the Clintons, it will pass, (redacted).'”
Gowdy told MacCallum that it needs to be investigated, a “State Department-component” for the record”.”
“I’m pretty troubled by what I read in the documentation with respect to the role the State Department played in the fall of 2016 with the inclusion of information that was used in [FISA] court proceedings,” Gowdy said. “I’m ready.”
However, Gowdy added, the special counsel, Robert Miller would have been convened to examine Russian actions during the election of 2016″, regardless of whether or not it is a dossier.”
“The dossier has nothing to do with the fact that someone tried to hack into the [Democratic National Committee] server,” he said. “The dossier had nothing to do with the meeting of George Papadopoulos in the UK. The dossier has nothing to do with [Donald Trump Jr] meeting at Trump Tower [with a Russian lawyer]. The dossier has nothing to do with allegations of obstruction of justice.”
Gowdy also raised, to leave the decision to Congress, saying it was “exactly the right time.”
“I’ll never run for office again,” he promised. “If you leave the politics to me, it is important that you will leave. And I’m at peace with it.”
