Google mistakenly identified a Senate office building as already named after the late Sen. John McCain.
WASHINGTON – Google Maps does not have to wait for the Senate.
Legislators are debating a proposal to change the name of one of the Senate office building after the late Sen. John McCain, but Google Maps already gives “McCain Senate office building” on its website.
A search for “Russell Senate office building” refers users to the same building.
The senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer proposed the name of the Russell building in McCain’s honor after the Arizona Republican died on Saturday of brain cancer. Senate majority Leader Mitch McConnell, says he will form a bipartisan panel to ask for ideas about ways to honor McCain.
Google said on Wednesday it was working on a solution for the problem. The company said in a statement it allows people to contribute local knowledge “but we have to recognize that there may be occasional inaccuracies or premature changes proposed by the users.”
