German watchdog is asking parents smart pop to destroy privacy concerns
The German communicatiewaakhond Bnetza has to parents, asking them the smart doll My Friend Cayla want to destroy it. The pop can personal data leaks.
Researchers have previously demonstrated that it is possible to unprotected Bluetooth connection to use for listening to and talking to children. My Friend Cayla uses speech recognition to listen to children. The toy can in this way respond to statements.
The manufacturer of the toy has not yet responded to the warning by the German watchdog.
However, Vivid Toy, the distributor, reported that the earlier incidents were isolated cases and were carried out by specialists. Nevertheless, the company could have the app pop an update to provide, that the problem should resolve.
