Georgia teacher’s dying wish fulfilled by students

Honorary pallbearers pay tribute to the school teacher Tammy Waddell.

A Georgia elementary school teacher who died earlier this month after a battle with cancer, made a poignant last request.

Tammy Waddell, 58, had a selfless wish for her funeral — backpacks with school supplies for students in need.

The Forsyth County elementary school teacher remembered by family, students and colleagues who brought gifts to her funeral.

Waddell’s cousin tweeted that she was a “teacher to the end.”

My cousin’s last request at her funeral was Backpacks filled with supplies for needy students in lieu of flowers. A teacher to the end. @TeachersNet @edutopia @EdWeekTeacher

Johnson’s heartfelt tweets in honor of his nephew, were received warmly on social media.

A Reddit user said: “We need more Tammy Waddells in the world.”

His image, reportedly received more than 100,000 up votes on Reddit.

Waddell’s legacy is inspiring the advocates of the education.

“My father was a teacher for 25 years and my sister currently teaches the high school,” a Reddit user said. “I know that the passion they share just our future generations better. I have so much respect for the teachers and you can tell that Mrs Waddell was positively affected hundreds of lives.”
