Georgia teacher is in custody after reports of shots fired at the high school

A teacher is taken into custody after reports of shots at the Dalton lyceum in Georgia.

Police responding to reports of shots fired at a Georgia high school Wednesday afternoon confirmed that a teacher had been taken into custody.

A student is injured after sustaining an ankle injury, while running inside the school during the construction of the evacuation, the Dalton Police Department tweeted. No faculty or staff were reported injured in the incident.

A student apparently sustained an ankle injury carried out within the school during the evacuation. The Student will be treated by EMS at the school.

The Dalton Police Department earlier tweeted a person, presumably a teacher, was barricaded in a classroom.

A police spokesman told WRCB-TV-the teacher had a gun, but no other details were immediately available.

An employee of the school who asked not to be identified told the Times Free Press that shots were fired.

Dalton high School was placed on lockdown and the police confirmed no children were in danger. The school and the surrounding area were evacuated.

The police have asked parents to pick up their children at the Northwest Georgia Trade Center.

Dalton is about 90 miles north of Atlanta.
