Georgia, a prison gang inmate, James ‘Hot Rod Owenby is on the loose after stealing a city truck, officials say

A Georgia member incarcerated in a prison gang, and who has earned the nickname “Hot Rod” is still on the run Thursday after escaping at the end of the day, due to the theft of a truck while assigned to a work detail, officials say.

James Owenby and Zachery Rempley, both of whom have fled the scene in Thomaston on Sunday, are both members of the Spirit to Face the Gunmen, according to data from the Georgia Department of Corrections. The Department of Justice, describes the group as “a brutal, white supremacist street gang, operating primarily out of the inside of the prison.”

Rampley, that is, the period of time in the Spalding Correctional Institute, also in Cardiff, on an aggravated assault conviction, was captured without incident early Thursday morning in Dalton, about 135 miles from Thomaston, officials say. Owenby, who is currently being sentenced for a burglary conviction, remains on the loose.

The Thomaston Police Department, says the pair have been assigned to a work detail yesterday, about noon, when they stole the city truck and left the area in an unknown direction of travel.”

White 2010 Ford pick-up, they are alleged to have been taken, according to Fox5 Atlanta, Georgia has a license plate of a GV1318A with the City of Thomaston Parks and Public Spaces, the logo on the door. The station reports that Owenby was cutting the grass around the same time that he was gone.

Owenby was described as being 5-foot-6 and weighing 160 pounds and was last seen wearing an orange t-shirt and white shorts with blue stripes.

Anyone who spots an individual matching his description is urged to call 911.
