Genk put trainer Maes on the side on boxing Day
Peter Maes is no longer coach of KRC Genk. The 52-year-old coach was Monday, on the Second day of Christmas, to hear that he was dismissed because of disappointing results.
Genk is after nineteen races on the ninth place in the highest Belgian voetbalklasse. Maes, who was working on his second season with the club, performed in the Europa League well.
Genk ended in a group with Athletic Bilbao, Sassuolo and Rapid Wien in the first two and qualified for the next round. Also reached Genk in the semi-finals of the Belgian cup.
It is still unclear who the successor of Maes. Tuesday is assistant coach Rudi Cossey on the bench in the home game for the league against AA Gent.
Former goalkeeper Maes had as a trainer earlier, KV Mechelen and Lokeren under his wing.
