Gaykrant makes digital comeback
The Gaykrant is back. Entrepreneurs Hans Prummel and Richard Otto want the brand to breathe new life into and therefore they are all old editions available digitally. In addition, there are new pieces appear on the site.
Prummel and Otto come with the platform as the emancipation of gays, lesbians and transgender people, according to them, the past few years more and more under pressure.
“I think it’s important that new generations realize how the gay rights the last decades has developed,” says Prummel in a comment.
“With the digital archive of the Gaykrant, we want to contribute to and provide a basis for new research, information and education in the Netherlands.”
‘Aggression maatchappelijk issue
“Intolerance and aggression toward gay, lesbian and transgender people is not only a problem for the gay community, but a social issue,” says Otto. “This problem, we want to be clear to denounce it.”
The Gay Newspaper, a magazine that since 1980, the monthly was published under the direction of Henk Krol. It went bankrupt in 2013 and was acquired, but was later defunct. A few years ago, there was much commotion because Krol, the Gay Newspaper of standing would have kept grant from the Foundation Friends of the Gaykrant, where he is president of was.
The brand name Gaykrant is now bought by Prummel and Otto and transferred to an eponymous foundation.
