Garbage trucks to block the possible Times Square truck attacks


NEW YORK – New York City’s iconic New Year’s Eve party will be surrounded by a sanitation vehicles to stop the truck drive away attackers such as those in Germany and France.

The 65 garbage collection and sand trucks along Times Square in the outline are meant to stop would-be attackers of plow trucks in the crowd of 1 million people.

New York Police Department Chief of Patrol Carlos Gomez said Thursday that 100 patrol cars to be used as a blocker vehicle.

The officials say that they regularly adjust their security measures based on events in the world. They say that there is no known, credible threats against the meeting.

A Dec. 19 attack in Berlin, 12 people were killed. A July 14 attack in Nice, France, killed 86.

New York police say they will deploy 7,000 officers, bomb-sniffing dogs and heavily armed counter-terrorism units.
