‘From the US imported food meets often not up to EU laws’

Food from the United States that are sold in Dutch stores, frequently do not meet laws and regulations in the European Union.

That says voedselwaakhond foodwatch after examination of 86 imports that are sold at Albert Heijn, Jumbo and Jamin. No product complied fully with the law.

So it came foodwatch, among others, the prohibited substance chemically bleached flour against and were often the mandatory warnings for allergens, mandatory nutritional information.

“This shows that the monitoring of these products by both the government and the business sector seriously fails”, says the voedselwaakhond.

Foodwatch shared the results of the investigation with the concerned importers, supermarkets and the Dutch Food and consumer product safety Authority (NVWA) and calls them to action.
