French award for choreographer Hans van Manen
Choreographer Hans van Manen will be given a high French distinction. As the first Dutch a performing artist, he was appointed Commandeur des Arts et Lettres. Van Manen is the resident choreographer of The National Ballet. Minister Jet Bussemaker (Culture) is Tuesday night at the presentation.
The company has until Saturday and on tour in France and Spain, where it occurs in the Montpellier and Granada. Van Manen (84) will receive the award Tuesday night during the Montpellier Danse festival.
The National Ballet is dancing at the festival two nights and a special program featuring the work of Van Manen. Thirty local amateurs perform in addition clog dance.
The French prize is awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves by their artistic creativity and have made a contribution to the influence of arts in France or worldwide.
