Frat boys arrested for alleged hazing children, torture rat in a filthy hovel

Nine men were arrested in a State University of New York school Wednesday for the alleged hazing and cruelty to animals.

Six students in a State University of New York college, and the other three men were arrested Wednesday for hazing after the students who believed that they were rushing for a fraternity came forward about their treatment in the house.

The arrests by the Brockport University Police at The College at Brockport came after a months-long investigation of “The Delts,” a group of students who were not recognized as a fraternity by the school, the Democrat & Chronicle.

University police chief Daniel Vasile said that people had previously complained about the group, but it was only two commitments, it emerged that the charges could be filed.

“They basically tortured (a) rat as an example of what would happen if someone came forward or tried to leave the organization,” Brockport Police Lt. Mark Cuzzupoli said Thursday.

“A hammer was used in one instance and a fist in another,” Cuzzupoli said of the alleged rat torture. “It is horrible. It is horrible. It’s disgusting.”

Vasile called the students who reported the abuse “brave” and said that he believes that it is the reaction of the police was the “pro-active.”

“We’re not waiting until we have a student death. We are proactive. We’re not going to tolerate this on our campus or around the campus,” Vasile said, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.

The organization as a brotherhood, despite the fact that the charter was revoked by the Delta Sigma Phi national fraternity in 2001.

Charges against the men include various offences counts of hazing, criminal nuisance, violence and alcohol-related unlawful dealing with a child.

Those arrested are expected to appear in court on Friday.
