Fort Drum commander returns from Iraq deployment

FORT DRUM, n.y. – Officials at Fort Drum say the Army post commander-general has returned from Iraq, where he was responsible for the Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command.

Maj. Gen. Walter Piatt returned this week to the north of New York, is the home of the 10th Mountain Division.

Fort Drum officials say Piatt the implementation included working directly with coalition leaders and military leaders of Iraq to the reconstruction of the war-torn country.

Army officials say less than 100 soldiers from the division Headquarters of the Battalion are still deployed in Iraq. They expected to return in the beginning of the autumn.

According to Fort Drum officials, over 9,400 members of the 10th Mountain deployed to more than 26 countries over the past year.
