NEW YORK – A man who lived in an upper Manhattan building where a big fire destroyed the top two floors last year, was arrested on charges of setting the fire.
WABC-TV reported Thursday that the 34-year-old Jelani Parker is arrested on charges of arson, assault and reckless endangering.
More than 150 people were displaced by the Nov. 17 fire in the six-storey building.
The authorities say that they had been building a case against Parker ever since he boarded a bus to the south within an hour of the fire.
The police says Parker later fled to Los Angeles. He was taken into custody after an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.
It is not clear whether Parker has a lawyer who could speak for him.
