Former president of Peru was sentenced to eighteen months in prison
A court in Peru last Thursday, former-president Ollanta Humala and his wife Nadine Heredia sentenced to eighteen months in prison.
Prosecutors working on a case against Humala for corruption. A judge decided, at the request of the public prosecutor to the prison to prevent the two country escape.
The public prosecutor’s office suspects the former president of taking bribes from the former president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, and Brazilian construction companies Odebrecht and OAS. “This is a president who is up to the ministry and us governed on the basis of illegally obtained money. That is serious”, said the prosecutor.
Humala is the second former president who is accused of receiving bribes. Former president Alejandro Toledo, who is likely to be in the U.S. staying, got earlier a similar punishment, but refuses to give himself up.
