Former NAACP leader Ben wins Jealous, The Governor’s primary in Maryland

BALTIMORE – Former NAACP President Ben Jealous, Maryland, won the democratic nomination for Governor on Tuesday, give him a shot at becoming the state’s first black Governor, and the establishment of a battle between the progressive candidate and a popular Republican incumbent.

Jealous, beat the Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker in the crowded elementary school. In November, Jealous face Gov. Larry Hogan is elected, the hopes of the first GOP Governor in Maryland since 1954. Hogan was unchallenged for his party’s nomination.

Jealous study supports fees-free college education and the expansion of Medicare for all. He also advocates raising teacher’s pay by 29 percent and the funding of full-day, universal pre-kindergarten with a tax revenue of its proposal, the legalization of marijuana for recreational use.

Jealous support of the leading liberal on the national stage, including Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont won, which accumulated with him in Silver Spring, outside of an early voting center. Sens. Cory Booker from New Jersey and Kamala Harris of California also endorsed him. Comedian Dave Chappelle, and Ben Cohen, a co-founder of “Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, made a stop in Maryland to appear with the candidate.

In 2008, at the age of 35, was elected to Jealous, the youngest person to lead the Baltimore-based NAACP, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. After five years at the helm, Jealous is credited with improving the NAACP, the finances and donor base.

Jealous campaigned for plans to reduce the state prison population to save money. One of his proposals for ending cash Deposit, and the position of people remain in prison awaiting trial, because you pay a public safety threat, not because they are too poor to pay bail.

He continues to support the police-reform efforts, including changes to the state law enforcement Bill of Rights, so that all of the allegations of police brutality are investigated, regardless of when the complaint was filed.

Hogan is widely used in the state where the Democrats control over several other elected offices, including the General Assembly.
