Forever 21 apologised this week after receiving backlash online, including a free diet bars of shipments to customers which have been ordered from the retailer’s plus-size clothing collection.

Forever 21 said it’s sometimes a surprise to customers with a free trial of products by a third-party e-commerce orders, in all sizes and categories, and are not specific to customers who purchase their plus size clothing collection.

“It was a mistake on our part and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused our customers, and because of this, it was not my intention in any way,” the retailer said in a statement to InStyle.

Last week, Twitter users shared images of the free-Atkins and the Lemon Bar, which they received into their order of delivery. Multiple users can be ordered in a plus-size collection, and asked, Forever 21, and the bar was sent as a message to them, in order to lose weight.

“I went from a size 24 to 18, as a plus size girl, so I ordered a jeans from @Forever21,” @MissGirlGames the book. “Opened the package, and when I looked inside, and I find that this is an Atkins bar. What are you trying to Tell me Forever 21, I’m FAT, and LOSE WEIGHT? can you give this to a NON-PLUS-SIZE-WOMEN’s, is it?”

User @caileeargudo wrote: “I bought a bathing suit from forever 21, and they sent me an atkins bar, and along with it lmaoo thank you for reminding me that I don’t have to be ready for the beach bod.”

Online critics alleged Forever 21 is the promotion of eating disorders and fat-shaming to the client by sending it a diet bar. Other users who have ordered the smaller sizes, tweeted that they received a diet of bars with their orders. Still others are attached to diet bars should not be sent with the dress shipment, regardless of its size, as it still evokes a negative response in the direction of the human body.

“I just bought a bunch of xs/s clothes of and got in, I don’t think it’s a personal thing..,” @stxrkid the book.

Atkins said in a statement on Tuesday that it was “aimed at a lifestyle and nutritional approach, and everyone will be able to take advantage of the general state of health and well-being.” “The purpose of the taking of the Atkins’ products, and to share the snacks that have great taste with optimal nutritional benefit,” the statement said, according to USA Today.
