Foreign reviews of new Dinner-film negative
Reviewers are not pleased with the American adaptation of The Dinner by Herman Koch. The movie The Dinner was Friday night premiere during the film festival in Berlin.
Of the six international journalists who were present gave the film an average of 1.3 stars. Even Koch himself would be disappointed in the results, set filmjournalist René Mioch on Twitter.
The British newspaper The Guardian gives the film a star. “After an hour and a half around the subject to rotate and the film to the core. Moverman did with Rampart and The Messenger, see that he is a good director, but The Dinner is a movie to skip”, reads the review.
According to German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung continues the story on the plain and there is a lack of a clear idea behind the film.
From the Netherlands the reviews are slightly better. NRC writes: “A very verbal film, with strong acting.”
“In The Dinner is Coogan a tasty eye-catcher, but chokes director Oren Moverman is in the flashbackstructuur of the story”, says The Volkskrant.
Against filmjournalist René Mioch said Koch he is not satisfied with the third film adaptation of his book. “Said Herman Koch after premiere The Dinner. Had film for the first time seen. Third time that his book turned into a film. Again not happy. Very disappointed!”, wrote the journalist on Facebook.
