Ford has used the Mustang name in the hope of a new electric SUV that will zap Tesla

(Reuters) – Ford Motor Co (F. N), the tag of its new electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), using the Mustang name, the automaker said on Thursday, seeking to entice customers into a new era by linking them to the model, including the ground-breaking design-in the 1960s, a combination of sportiness and affordability.

Ford has confirmed that its new electric SUV will be called the Mustang Mach for the debut event, scheduled for Los Angeles on Sunday. Up until now, the Mustang name will only be used in a line of sporty coupes to be associated with the Detroit of the 1960’s muscle car era.

For customers in the United States, Canada, australia and Europe to begin with, the order of the electric vehicles to be on the Nov. 17, Ford said.

While the Mustang coupe’s were built in Michigan, and the Machine will be built at a plant in Cuatitlan, Mexico.

The Mach-I is the first of more than a dozen all-electric cars, the company plans to start by 2022 with an investment of $11.5 billion as it moves away from traditional gasoline-powered cars.

The market for the electric car leader Tesla Inc. (TSLA.(O) has been used, it has speed and power, and for the sale of its vehicles, along with upgradable software, and a big screen.

With the help of the Mustang, the name of a signal that Ford is going to have to do the same thing, with the abandonment of the previous strategy, the positioning of electric vehicles as a practical, “green” cars.

The competition of electric cars, customers will continue to increase in the coming years, as more mainstream automakers to launch electric models, and the Model is expanding to new segments of the market.

Tesla’s Chief Executive Elon Musk has said that he will unveil a high-performance electric pickup truck, at an event in Los Angeles on Nov. 21, to coincide with the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Ford and General Motors Co. (GM.(N) work on an electric pick-up trucks as well.

In April, the No. 2 U.S. automaker invested $500 million in electric car maker Rivian, and said that it was intended to be used by the Michigan startup, a platform for the construction of a new Ford-branded electric vehicle.

Ford has also formed an alliance with Volkswagen AG VOWG_p.DE the German automaker’s compact electric vehicle platform for the new vehicles in Europe.
