For rape sentenced former president of Israel early released
The statutory rape charges, convicted former Israeli president Moshe Katsav on Wednesday after five years in prison early released.
After leaving the prison, he started laughing and in the company of his wife Gila in an awaiting car.
The 71-year-old Katsav was in 2011 to seven years in prison convicted for rape of an employee when he was at the end of the nineties minister and the harassment of two women during his presidency.
Women’s organisations and women parliamentarians have always opposed the early release. The authorities decided Katsav still free, because the former president had any regrets expressed for the pain and the sorrow that he women has done. Two previous requests from Katsav to early to be released, were rejected.
The iranian-born Katsav was president from 2000 to 2007.
