Flu epidemic in the Netherlands now takes eight weeks
The netherlands is now in the eighth week of a flu epidemic. That is according to figures from research institute Nivel, that speaks of a ‘mild’ epidemic.
Last week, 102 in 100,000 people to the doctor with flu symptoms. A week earlier, there were 122. If two consecutive weeks more than 51 for every 100,000 people influenza is considered an epidemic. That means that a lot of people at the same time from the same disease. An average flu epidemic lasts eight weeks.
General practitioners see in particular young children under four years old and persons over 65 with griepverschijnselen.
Nivel holds the flu in the Netherlands in the holes via a representative group of general practitioners in the whole country.
