Melissa Howard, candidate for Florida state House seat, has decided to withdraw from the election after admitting to lying about her college credentials.


The Florida state House candidates to lie about their college-graduate allegedly fell admitted out of the race.

Melissa Howard, a Republican, for whom questions about her academic credentials when she released a copy of what she said were her college transcripts, on Facebook and sent a photo of her supposed degree in media outlets.

But, a lawyer for the Miami University in question, the diploma, authenticity, tells the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, that it is not in accordance with those issued in the years 1994 and 1996, the years, you claimed that you graduated.

“I made a mistake, to say that I completed my degree. What I did was wrong and a bad example for someone who is looking for in the public service,” said Howard on Monday. She remained adamant to stay in the race.

“I’m coming to the realization that doing the right thing for my community is to be out of the race to pull back,” Howard told the newspaper. “I’m going to do today.”

“I made a terrible error in judgment. I am grateful for all who gave so much to my success, and I am deeply sorry,” she continued.

Your primary opponent, Air Force veteran, Tommy Gregory, said he spoke with Howard and wish her the best.

“You apologized for what you did, and for the meanness in this campaign and offered their full support for my candidacy,” Gregory said in a Facebook post.

Despite Howard’s promise, the race to withdraw, is it too late to get your name from the ballot before the Aug. 28 primary. Vote by mail ballots were sent out a month ago, and about 20,000 Republican votes were already cast.


But Sarasota County GOP Chairman Joe Gruters told The Associated Press that they fall the right decision out of the race.

“I can’t imagine that the voters would have given a pass on this, but we will never know,” Gruters said. “This is a good example for all that if something in your origin, A, be ready for it to come, and B, the cover-up is always worse than what’s happened.”
