Jonathan Guerin, a spokesman for United, said the tower reported to the crew of what seemed to be flames from one of the engines. He said the crew immediately deployed the aircraft in the sides, and the passengers evacuated.
United said that he was working on to take the passengers to San Francisco as soon as possible.
The airport said travelers should expect delays for the rest of the night.
