First road with solar panels open in France
In Western France, Thursday is the first public road with solar panels open for motorized vehicles. The solar panels have enough power for street lighting in the village of Tourouvre-au-Perche.
The French minister Ségolène Royal of Ecology has the section of a road, Thursday, open, reports Ouest France. The row of solar panels is one kilometer long and is located on one of the two lanes.
The construction of the road has a five million euro cost. On the local road, drive about two thousand cars per day. The French government, the project wants two-year test to see if the road is profitable.
It is not yet sure whether with the way enough energy can be generated for the public lighting in the village with 3.400 inhabitants, west of Paris.
In the Netherlands, in 2014 the first road with solar panels opened. The bike path in Krommenie provides enough energy to power a house for an average family to provide power.
