The film will be an “exploration of a man ignored by society [that] is not only a gritty nature of the study, but also a broader cautionary tale,” Warner Bros. told The Hollywood Reporter in July.

The film will have no impact on the DC Universe, in which Jared Leto stars as the Joker, according to Variety. Warner Bros is the development of a separate stand-alone Joker movie for Leto, who will be within the limits of the DC Universe.

Prior to Phillips the release of the photo of Phoenix in character, but without his trademark make-up and costume, TMZ unearthed a video showing the star in action.

Phoenix Joker origin film is set to be released Oct. 4, 2019.
