FC Utrecht against Zenit hope to draw from undefeated thuisreeks in Europe

FC Utrecht can Wednesday in the first meeting of the diptych with Zenit St Petersburg hope to draw from an impressive series of home matches in the European context. The team of trainer Erik ten Hag to take the Russians in the play-offs for a Europa League ticket.

The Domstedelingen are already nine matches on Dutch soil undefeated in the preliminary rounds and the main draw of the Europa League. That is a European clubrecord for Utrecht.

Austria Wien was in december 2004, the last club to FC Utrecht defeat dealt on their own field. The Austrians won at that time with 1-2 in the group stage of the UEFA Cup, the forerunner of the Europa League.

Since then kept FC Utrecht stand against, successively, KF Tirana, FC Luzern, Celtic, Liverpool, Napoli, Steaua Bucharest, FC Differdange 03, Valletta FC and Lech Poznan. Four times it was won, and five thuisduels ended in a tie for the people from utrecht.

Another hopeful statistic for the team of Ten Hag is the scoring ability on familiar ground. FC Utrecht failed never two European home matches in a row just to find. The duel with Poznan ended late last month in a 0-0.

Without profit

On the other hand, the less bright series of European matches without victory. Of the last twelve matches at the continental level, there was only one winning ended.

Earlier this summer, Valletta, after a goalless draw in Malta, with a 3-1 set aside in the Mandemakers Stadium in Waalwijk, the netherlands. Utrecht had them dodging because of the european CHAMPIONSHIP for women, which in part was finished in the familiar Galgenwaard. In the third preliminary round had the Polish Lech Poznan to believe (0-0 at home and 2-2).

Further played Utrecht since the group stage of the 2010/2011 season nine times, equal, and twice lost in European context.

Differdange

FC Utrecht tries at the expense of Zenit for the first time since the 2010/2011 season once again to qualify for the main draw of the Europa League. When did the Domstedelingen in the preliminary rounds with successively Tirana, Luzern and Celtic.

Four years ago proved the null Differdange still a too high hurdle for Utrecht. The team of former coach Jan Wouters blameerde itself at the time by 2-1 to lose in Luxembourg and at home not further than 3-3.

Zenit

Zenit can boast a more successful recent past in Europe. The Russians knew of the last seven seasons to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League or Europa League and won under the leadership of Dick Advocaat the UEFA Cup in 2008.

It is for Zenit not the first time that in the European context, the Netherlands team was linked to. Last year came across it in AZ in the group stages of the Europa League (5-0 profit and 3-2 loss). In the season 2007/2008 played the Russians with a 1-1 draw against the Alkmaarders.

Seven seasons ago, turned out to FC Twente, however, is a big obstacle. The Tukkers put itself at the expense of Zenit for the quarter-finals of the Europa League. In 2014/2015, the Russians, the eighth-finals by PSV over two duels to defeat.

The first match of FC Utrecht with Zenit starts Wednesday evening at 18.00 o’clock in The Galgenwaard stadium. The return in the fight for a spot in the main draw of the Europa League on Thursday 24 August in St. Petersburg.
