FBI investigates after the 70-year-old widow cheated out of $225 KB

OKLAHOMA CITY – The FBI is investigating after a 70-year-old Oklahoma woman said she was cheated out of more than $225,000 by someone posing online as the US Army general stationed in Syria.

Phyllis Lindsey tells The Oklahoman that she was contacted on Facebook by someone who claims to be “Gene. Lester Holmes.” The widow says she began to talk, and a “romance happened very quickly.”

An FBI statement says Lindsey made four transfers in October. She was of the opinion that the money was used as payment for the delivery of luggage with his discharge papers and money.

The fourth transfer of the thread was frozen after Lindsey’s son thought that she was being scammed and contacted the FBI. Records show the transfer of $100,000 was recovered this month from an Atlanta bank.
