PORTLAND, Maine – Federal prosecutors have charged the owner of a Maine lobster boat with a sailor’s murder after two members of the crew were lost during a 2014 fish.
The prosecutor of the V. S. in Portland, says the 28-year-old Christopher Hutchinson of Cushing, Maine, was the use of drugs and alcohol on his boat, No Limits, sank off the coast of Maine on Nov. 1, 2014.
Hutchinson was arrested and charged by criminal complaint on Monday. He was taken by the court Monday, and it is unclear whether he has a lawyer. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
Records say Hutchinson was the owner and captain of the boat. The indictment says that he caused the death of the crew members with a “careless and unsafe operation” of the boat in dangerous sea conditions.
