Father of 2 Park survivors is robbed, killed; suspect surrenders

A grocery store owner was fatally shot Tuesday by a gunman, authorities said. The incident was captured on surveillance images.

A father of two high school students who are still in February the school massacre in the Park, Fla., was fatally shot this week by a robber, authorities said.

On Friday, a 19-year-old man surrendered to police in connection with the death, Miami FOX 7 reported. The police recognize the suspect as Tyrone Fields, Jr. and said that he is faced with one count of murder and armed robbery charges, the report said.

The victim, Ayub Ali, 61, was stocking shelves in North Lauderdale supermarket when the suspect ran, the video footage released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office shows.

The shooter appeared to linger in the aisles before approaching Ali behind the shop at the front of the counter.

Ali opened the register and the gunman turned out of pocket money before leaving the store. According to the police the shooter back to the store a short time later and shot Ali.

Ali was taken to a nearby medical center and pronounced dead, the Miami Herald reported. The shooter is the reason for the return to the supermarket was not immediately known.

The sheriff’s office released the surveillance footage Thursday.

Ali was an immigrant from Bangladesh who had been in the United States for 20 years. A family spokesman said he worked long hours to save up enough money to buy from the supermarket.

“He was a very nice person,” a friend of Ali, told FOX 7. “He was very friendly with the customers. Everyone loves him in the community.”

Ali leaves a wife and four children. Two of Ali’s four children are students at marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in parkland, Fla., where a lone gunman slaughtered 17 people in February. ‘Ali’s children were among the dead.
