CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A diversity task force at Harvard University, is the start of a reference to “Puritans” of the school’s official song.
The song known as “Fair Harvard” previously ended with the lines “Are the harbinger of the light, and the bearer of love, till the stock of the Puritans die.”
But on Tuesday the school the Task Force on the Recording and it said that it is now the end, To the stars in the firmament die.”
The Ivy League school chosen for the new line after looking for suggestions from students, staff and alumni. The final was a 1984 graduate.
The officials said the old line may be incorrectly linked the school to “the ethnicity and the rise and fall of racial groups.”
The task force received 168 recommended. A panel of professors and alumni chose the winner.
