Karina Vetrano was killed in 2016, while she was running in Queens, New York.
The parents of a New York City woman brutally murdered in August 2016, looking at video of her alleged murderer to explain to investigators how he killed their daughter.
Karina Vetrano parents and more than a dozen family members were present in the Queens courtroom, breaks into sobs as she listened to Chanel Lewis told an agent with the graphic details of the beating. Lewis is known to break Vetrano teeth, beating her unconscious, and finally strangling her, The New York Post reported.
Through my tears, Vetrano’s mother was holding a golden crucifix as she looked at images of Lewis’ confession played on a pre-trial hearing. Lewis could be seen, which describes how he was mad to the point of seeing red and grabbed Vetrano as they ran past him through a soggy swamp. Vetrano is allegedly clawed at Lewis’ face as he hit her five times, leaving her unconscious, Lewis told the police, the report said.
“I’m done with her, I strangled her. She fell into the lake and drowned,” he said in the footage. “I stood up and wiped the blood. And she was quiet, she was in the pool [water].”
After confessing to Vetrano, the murder during a Feb. 2017 interview, the 21-year-old Lewis asked the prosecutor how he could make his way out of the cost, according to the report.
“I can in order to bring my stuff?” Adding, “Well, you’re the DA, right? Where do we go from here? Is there a refund program or something?”
Vetrano the jogging shorts were found to be demolished, but Lewis insisted he did not molest her. When asked why he killed Vetrano, he answered: “Because a man moved into my house and the neighborhood.”
Lewis’ family had apparently left the courtroom when the tape of his confession. Vetrano’s father was critical of Lewis’ family members for their unwillingness to look at, The New York Post reported.
“His family left the room,” he said. “They could not listen to his confession. We know where the coward got his cowardliness.”
