Facebook, Twitter, accusing the China of the disinformation campaign against Hong Kong protesters

Twitter and Facebook are suspended nearly 1000 accounts that have been linked to a Chinese disinformation campaign that is targeted to pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

On Monday, Twitter announced that it had suspended the 936, the accounts of which were related to disinformation from the effort. In a blog post, the company said it was “co-ordinated, state-sponsored campaign that was designed to “sow political discord in Hong Kong, including the undermining of the legitimacy of the political positions held by the protest movement on the ground.”

With the Jack Dorsey-led company said that it had conducted “extensive research” into the defendant’s accounts, which have been shut down due to violations of Twitter policy platform for manipulation.
