Facebook takes steps to gender and age discrimination against

Facebook is its advertising platform to adjust to the facilitation of discrimination on the basis of gender and age. It is no longer permitted to target advertising by age, gender or zip code in messages about search, recruitment and lending practices.

The measure is the result of a settlement with the American burgerrechtenorganisatie ACLU. That commenced in september filed a lawsuit against Facebook for the facilitation of discrimination.

The ACLU fears that the categories of advertisements to make sure that potential employees or applicants of a loan to be excluded, because a Facebook ad to them by the selection criteria not reached.

Discrimination was made on Facebook is already not allowed, but the categories can facilitate. The ACLU also points to indirect categories that discrimination facilitation, such as ‘voetbalmoeders’ or ‘Kwanzaa-vierders’ (an annual party for the Afro-American culture to honor).

In August, it was announced that the Us department for Housing an official complaint about discriminatory advertising options on Facebook.
