FA chairman calls Rooney a legend and icon of his generation’

Greg Clarke, the chairman of the English football association, FA, came Wednesday superlatives deficit for Wayne Rooney, the striker who immediately stops if international.

“Today is an end of an era in international football,” said Clarke. “Wayne Rooney is an icon of his generation and without a doubt a legend in football.”

The 31-year-old Rooney reported Wednesday in a statement that he is after 119 international matches stops at the English national team. The attacker with 53 goals scorer of all times of his country.

“No need to explain that Wayne is forever a quantity of the ‘Three Lions’,” said Clarke.

“We are sad that Wayne will say goodbye as international, but we respect his decision and expect that he yet many years his contribution to Everton and football in general.”

Rooney makes his first goal for England on 6 september 2003 against Macedonia.

Rooney plays at the european CHAMPIONSHIPS of 2004 and his first major tournament. England lose in the quarter-finals of Portugal.

On november 15, 2014 plays Rooney against Slovenia in his 100th international match. He comes in a total of 119 caps (53 goals).

Rooney shoots in England, in the eighth finals of the 2016 european CHAMPIONSHIPS early on 1-0 against Iceland, but it is 1-2. It proved to be his last match in a large tournament.

Rooney played in november last year, his last international match. He was then not selected for the English team, because he’s at Manchester United have little to play deserved.

The attacker moved this summer to Everton, where he strongly began with two hits in the first two matches played. Southgate asked him this week whether he wanted to return in the selection, but Rooney decided to have a farewell to announce.

Sven Göran Eriksson, the coach Rooney thirteen years ago, debut if international, believes it is “very unfortunate” that the attacker is not more to be admired will be on the world CHAMPIONSHIPS next year in Russia.

“If I were the coach, I would try to get Rooney to convince his retirement until after the world cup”, told the Swede to Sky Sports.
