Exhibition Of der Elsken at the Stedelijk Museum attracts 271.000 visitors
The retrospective of the famous Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990) has 271.000 drawn visitors to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. That there are more than expected, left the museum Tuesday know.
The exhibition of Ed van der Elsken – The infatuated camera was the most comprehensive overview of his work in 25 years. Not only his photos but also his original films and books were up to last weekend in the museum.
“It is striking how many young people really fan of Ed van der Elsken,” concludes the curator Hripsimé Visser. “In this time of perfect selfies, they are also really impressed by his direct and unpolished street photography. Ed always knew perfectly the ‘Zeitgeist’ show. Apparently, close that again fits perfectly with the current zeitgeist and his work is still very current.”
The exhibition travels to Paris, where the work of 13 June and 24 september is to see the Musée Jeu de Paume.
