FREEHOLD, N. J. – A former New Jersey police officer convicted of helping the gang members in research, has been sentenced to 10 years without parole.
Forty-nine-year-old Keith German, a 16-year veteran of the Asbury Park police department, was convicted in September of three counts of official misconduct, hindering apprehension of the gang members, as well as the conspiracy to commit stalking, harassment, and other crimes.
Prosecutors said German tipped gang members about police investigations in return for help with the stalking of a woman who rejected his advances. He was arrested in North Carolina in June after skipping the trial.
German was one of dozens arrested in 2014, as part of a sweep targeting criminal and gang activity in Asbury Park. Prosecutors said that many of those arrested were members of the crips or Bloods street gangs.
