DES MOINES, Iowa – The former top female athletic administrator at the University of Iowa, says she worked with a “don’t ask, don’t tell” mentality, with preservation of a ten-year-long relationship with the Hawkeyes’ hockey coach that eventually led to her dismissal from the department.
Jane Meyer testified Thursday on her discrimination trial in Des Moines, that she feared that she would never achieve her goal to be a Division I athletic director as a lesbian.”
Meyer says, “You must be very careful with your personal life, unless you’re heterosexual.”
Meyer is alleging discrimination in the workplace and is seeking damages for wages and emotional distress.
Iowa athletic director Gary Barta is expected to testify Friday.
