Chelsea-coach Maurizio Sarri has not a good word to say about the way in which Tuesday the decision fell in the League Cup match with Tottenham Hotspur (1-0). According to the Italian, the English arbitration not yet ready for the use of the VAR.
The goal from Tottenham came after a lot of commotion. Harry Kane was in the penalty area undermined by Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, but arbitrator Michael Olliver noted that the striker just before offside was.
On the advice of the videoscheidsrechter was that decision, however, reversed. The home team was therefore still a penalty, which Kane was used.
“I have the video footage from our own camera seen and is to see that Kane is offside. Our camera was on the same line as Kane,” said an angry Sarri. On the image through the VAR was used, it seemed Kane understand, do not offside.
“But the most important was that the judge stopped running”, the Chelsea coach further. “He followed the ball and that was a major influence on our defenders. At this time, the English referees are simply not yet ready to take the VAR to use.”

VAR per next season in Premier League
In contrast to most of the major European leagues in the Premier League until next season, with the VAR being worked on, but in the League Cup is the tool already, however, introduced. Sarri find that weird.
“The referees need to better understand the system. It is very strange that the VAR in the Premier League is still not in use, but in the League Cup as well,” says the former coach of Napoli.
Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino was something milder, also expressed his concern over the role of the VAR in the international competition. “According to me, nobody is really happy about it,” he said.
“It’s great when a decision in your favor fails, but it doesn’t feel good to have a competition in this way to win. I am an advocate of technology, but in a way that is clear for everyone. That is not the case now.”
The return between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday 22 January. The other semi-final of the second English cup is between Manchester City and Burton Albion.
