Former “Lost” star Evangeline Lilly recalls times in which she felt ‘cornered’ in the doing partially nude scenes for the series that she was not very comfortable.
“Lost” has cemented its place on the list of all-time great TV shows, but for Evangeline Lilly, not all of the memories of her time on the series are good.
Fresh off her starring turn in “Ant-Man and Wasp,” the newly minted Marvel hero sat down for a recent episode of The Lost Boys podcast, where she very candidly about the making of the mysterious ABC drama — including a number of traumatic on-set moments that led to her putting her foot down when it came to filming nude scenes.
“In season 3, I had a bad experience on set with is basically cornered into doing a scene partially nude, and felt I had no choice in the matter,” Lilly recalled. “And I was hurt and I was shaking, and when it finished, I cried my eyes out and I had on a very formidable, very strong scene afterwards.”

The actress recalled two times were she was convinced to do the scenes that they do not want to do during the filming of “Lost.”
“In season 4, a different scene came on where Kate was undressing and I fought very hard to have that scene under my control and I can not control the weather,” she added. “So then I said, ‘That’s it, no more. You can write whatever you want—I will not do it. I will never get my clothes off on this show again.’ and I do not.”
The actress also reminded to go toe-to-toe with the writers and producers about her character, Kate’s, motivations and actions, in particular, the “nasty” storyline, which revolved around her love triangle with Jack (Matthew Fox) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway).
“In the beginning she was a little cool, and then as the show progressed, she became more and more predictable and unpleasant,” Lilly thought. “I had the feeling that my character went from anonymous—really with her own story and her own story and her own agenda to prey on men around the island, and that irritated the shit out of me. And I have to throw the scripts on the rooms as I read them, because I would be very frustrated by the decreasing amount of autonomy that they had and the reduction of the amount of her own story there was to play.”

Ultimately, the actress said her dreams for the characters that were larger than what they got to play on the screen. “I wanted her to be better, because she was an icon for power and autonomy for women, and I thought that we could have done better than that.”
“The great thing about it is that they are flawed, and that is so important,” she added. “If you have no errors in the women on the screen, and then on what you tell the world is that women are perfect if they are going to love. And if you are flawed women on screen who are also icons of femininity, which are also beloved, then gives all of us permission to be flawed.”
