European Parliament wants to make adjustment energy labels household appliances
The energy labels for electrical household devices such as refrigerators, washing machines and vacuum cleaners to be adjusted. The European Parliament decided on Wednesday in Strasbourg that the “confusing” system within five years on the shovel.
The well-known color scale of A to G must be in one glance to make it clear how the state with the energy consumption. Many devices now fall in the category A+, A++ or A+++ and that is not clear for consumers.
The parliament also wants the label to be shown in ads and that the monitoring of energy labels is being tightened.
“Consumers must have confidence that energy labels are correct, and manufacturers may not cheat with the information”, according to D66-Europarlementarier Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy. His y-colleague Bas Eickhout will find that it is all much too long and the parliament, his ears hang down to the industry “at the expense of the consumer and the environment”.
The parliament will now negotiate with member states on the legal text.
