Erasmus MC – Sophia children’s Hospital begins in march, a project in which virtual reality is used to children as well as possible to prepare for a surgery.
Thanks to the virtual reality-images children get accustomed to the areas of the operatiecomplex and the anesthesieprocedure. Also put a virtual nurse and a virtual anesthesiologist out what’s going to happen. At your own pace, the child can the rooms to view and discover.
70 percent of the 6,000 children each year who undergo surgery experience anxiety before surgery. It is intended that this number, thanks to the project is reduced.
The project is a close collaboration between different departments within the Sophia children’s Hospital, including Child and Adolescent psychiatry-/Psychology and Kinderanesthesiologie. The project, which is march 15 to start, is funded by the foundations Coolsingel and Silver Cross.
The British hospital Kings College Hospital made in February announced that they are also virtual reality bets on the children’s ward. They have developed an Android application that children must be reassuring for an MRI scan.
